It is also very important to not let children play with them either. They are not suitable as childrens toys due to the delicate parts that may come loose, and if they are curious as children often are then you might want to consider supervised care of it. More importantly, You should not let your reborn doll replace your children though, and this is a serious comment - some people take things too far.

The reborn should not be man handled with any exerted force - many of the bits the make up the beautiful baby are brittle while others are delicatly attached - they will not withstand force though and it will cause them to fall off. This will include the finger nails, hair, eyelashes and brows.

The temperature may cause damage to the reborn if you arent careful. If it gets too hot it will cause the doll vinyl to become soft and may damage the coloring or the paint.

In extreme cases it may even melt of cause warping and flattening of its features. Dont leave a light near the doll as this can get it too hot. Likewise, cold will damage it it it gets too cold, it will crack the doll.

Dust is the destroyer of many collectible items, so you should dust your reborn doll from time to time. Dusting it gently will keep it in prime condition for many years although you should not use polish.

Some people keep their reborns in a showcase which preserves them for much longer so if you wont be moving yours around too often this is a possibility for you.

This should all help you keeping your reborn dolls innocence and features as fresh as when you first got it.

In 1982, the Ideal Toy Company was purchased by the CBS Toy Company, which later went out of business. Today, we seem to know and hear more of the Ideal Novelty Toy Company than the CBS Toy Company.

Examples of dolls made by the Ideal Company in the 1950s are:

Saucy Walker: Stood 16′ and 22′ tall, hard plastic, walker, pin jointed body, wig, sleep eyes, open mouth with two teeth and some were made with a closed mouth, some are criers, some had bent knees, also a black version. Numbers are Ideal Dolls/W16 (for the 16′ height doll) and Ideal Dolls/W22 (for the 22′ height doll). All dolls were dressed in 1950s style dresses. Produced 1951 to 1955.

Betsy McCall: Stands 14′ tall with a vinyl head, and a Toni body. The 1954 version was a walker. Betsy McCall was produced in the years of 1952-1954.

Ruth: Stands 16, 19 or 21′ tall and uses the Toni walker body with V markings on head. Some of the Ruth bodies were marked V-19. Produced in 1953.

Cream Puff Baby: Stands 19, 21, 23 or 24′ tall, is all vinyl, rooted hair, blue eyes, dimpled cheeks and was produced 1959 to 1962.

Patti Playpal: One of Ideal’s most popular dolls, stood 35′ tall the size of a three year old child with markings on the head that read: Ideal Doll Toy Corp./G-35 or B-19-1. Produced 1959-1961.

There are of course, many, many more dolls that were produced by the Ideal Doll Toy Company. These are just to name a few.

The Ideal Toni dolls were designed by Bernard Lipfert in 1949. It was a rather expensive doll for this era. The Toni dolls were produced as a marketing tool for the Toni Cosmetic Company and sold with a home permanent kit.

The kit consisted of a permanent solution made of sugar and water, end papers and a comb. I suppose the idea was to pretend being a beautician with the Toni doll. The Ideal Toni Dolls had a wig easy to identify. The wefts of hair are folded over and stitched into a center part. She was also issued with many different dress styles.

The Ideal Cricket Doll was a 16′ fashion doll introduced in the year of 1971 as ‘Posin’ Cricket.’ This doll was especially produced for and sold only by Sears & Roebuck Company. Some collectors consider her to be part of the Crissy ‘family’ of dolls. Cricket’s appeal was her ‘growing-hair.’

The Ideal Doll, ,   was one of the most popular dolls ever made. Some of them today are worth a lot of money. Shirley Temple dolls in rare outfits can sell for hundreds of dollars and the very, very mint dolls in their original boxes can sell for $1,000 and more.

The rarer varieties like the Baby Shirley dolls can also be very expensive for today’s doll collector. The 1957 Shirley Temple dolls sell for more than the later early 1970s Shirley Temple dolls. The 1982 re-release Shirley Temple is an example of a vinyl Shirley that can be purchased for $50 or less.

The Shirley Temple dolls were made in several different sizes: 11′, 12′, 27′ and 36.’ There were other companies who produced the Shirley Temple doll; however, the Ideal Toy Corporation was the best known. Ideal produced the dolls from the 1930s until the company went out of business in other 1970.

With time, every aspect of our life has become more sophisticated and advanced toys for children is not away from the impact. Mel Birnkrant is the creator of the Galoob Baby Face doll . He has been in the toy industry for many years and is a leading toy designer. Mel Birnkrant was the Creative Director for Colorforms Toys for over 20 years. While in this position he created a cornucopia of products that included the Mickey Mouse and Disney Colorforms toys.

He licensed the Baby Face doll design in partnership with Kiscom Toys to the Lewis Galoob Toy Company in 1990. All the original outfits worn by the Baby Face dolls were created by Judy Albert, who also has fame for the Cabbage Patch family of dolls.

Mel and his wife, Eunice converted a three-story schoolhouse in upstate New York into a home for themselves and their unusual collection of rare comic character toys.

All the dolls have acrylic glass eyes and real eyelashes. The dolls are made of a high quality vinyl and are about 13" tall. Being jointed at the neck, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees (a true strung doll) they are able to stand and pose in many different ways. They are fully jointed and completely poseable. These features were formerly only found in more expensive collector dolls.

All the Baby Face dolls have rooted hair of various colors, but mostly blondes (except the black, Asian and Hispanic versions). There were Canadian, Portuguese, Finnish and Japanese Baby Face dolls as well, and a few prototypes of proposed styles waiting when Galoob abruptly discontinued the line.

Each doll is similar, yet unique, and sold for about $20 each. Six of the 10 were also produced in black versions. An Asian and Hispanic doll was added to the line.

The six additional outfits and diapers that were sold separately for the Baby Face dolls included:

As many doll collectors (and little girls, of course) know, 2005 has been the "year of the bratz." Bratz dolls have replaced Barbie dolls in many countries as the top selling dolls, bringing an end to Barbie’s control of the doll market and giving birth to what may be called "the age of the Bratz dolls."

But what’s the main reason behind little girls preferring Bratz dolls over their formidable competition? The answer is simple: coolness. While a lot of moms out there seem to avoid buying Bratz because of their diva looks, the excess of makeup on the dolls’ faces, their bad attitude expressions and the "trashy" clothes they wear; these precise features are what make little girls (and not-so-little too) go crazy for Bratz dolls. Let’s face it: reality shows us that more and more young women every day tend to adopt the latest fashions and trends, so it is rather logical for a little girl to prefer stylistic Bratz dolls over the more conservative and outdated Barbie dolls.

It seems to me that MGA Entertainment (the creator of Bratz dolls) made the right choice when they started producing these cool fashion dolls back in the summer of 2001 since these chunky, ten-inch vinyl dolls are the number one choice among girls between 8 and 12 years of age.

Maybe the reason for the popularity of the Bratz dolls is the large number of accessories available: from clothing for different seasons to mini-malls, from a sushi restaurant to a cool disco, these Bratz seem to know how to have fun! The different Bratz available include: Bratz Angelz (yes, they are rock stars!), and of course the Angelz tour bus and party plane (every rock star should have one…), the cool Wild West Bratz (I just love those little cowboy hats and the horse), the plain Step Out Bratz dolls, and (my favorites) the Bratz Campfire Girlz. There is also a couple of little Bratz (the Bratz Babiez, Phoebe and Roxxi) to choose from. I specially recommend the Bratz Holiday Doll, a nice lovely doll with a beautiful long evening dress.

There is also a huge number of cool playsets for the Bratz, including the CampFire tent, the limousine, a sushi - karaoke bar, the Bratz shopping mall, the retro cafe, and a vast selection of different places where your Bratz dolls can hang out.

MGA Entertainment has, as has many other doll-producing companies, introduced a line of makeup and many other lifestyle products for girls to complement the "Bratz dolls experience." Maybe the biggest news in this area is the brand new line of Bratz electronics. A portable DVD player, a digital video recorder (yes, a Bratz camcorder!) and a TV/DVD combo are just some of the Bratz dolls electronic products available. Bratz dolls DVD’s, a video game and even a movie to be released this year complete the magical Bratz dolls world.

One of the most popular collector’s items is dolls. Collectible dolls can range from antique dolls to modern collectible dolls. If you are interested in collecting dolls, it would be a good idea to focus on a particular type of collectible doll. Certainly one of the most rewarding and exciting is collectible Barbie dolls. Barbies have become extremely popular since they first came out in 1959. What little girl is there that doesn’t own at least one Barbie. If you wish to maintain the value of your collectible Barbies, you must leave them in their boxes. Part of the value of a Barbie is the original box; therefore most experienced collectors do not ever remove their collectible Barbies from their boxes. The value of collectible Barbies can depreciate by as much fifty percent if they are taken out of their boxes. As a collector of Barbie dolls you have a choice to make about whether to take the doll out of its box to enjoy while losing out on value, or simply console yourself that the doll in its box is beautiful and will maintain its value even though you will not get a chance to touch and play with it. However, you can buy a collectible Barbie doll packaged in a lift-off box, so you can still enjoy playing with and feeling your Barbie. In this way it will still look great while it retains its value as a collectible.

Rule Number Two: Ask An Expert

Finding collectible Barbies is not a difficult task, but getting to know the value of your collection can require a bit of effort. Before you are able to accurately judge the value of collectible Barbies, you may need to ask an expert or read up on the literature pertaining to collectible Barbie dolls. Many parents from around the world have argued that Barbie’s ultra-slim figure represents a ridiculous standard for a body shape. They say that many girls grow up thinking that they must have the same figure as Barbie or there is something wrong with them. While I don’t take that radical of a stance, I will say that it would be quite difficult to measure up to Barbie’s standards.

If you take the measurements of Barbie, she would be over 7 feet tall, weigh around 125 pounds, and have a shape of 32-20-42. Of course, no woman could maintain a figure like that, but this is where the controversy stems.

In addition, Barbie has a very long neck. In fact, her neck is nearly twice the size of the average woman. Her feet are also another source of criticism with many saying that Barbie’s feet are only half the size of a normal womans due to foot binding. That is the practice of preventing your feet from growing by constricting them.

Some have went as far as saying that the Barbie doll has caused their children to become anorexic from trying to maintain Barbie’s figure. I think that may be a little extreme, but I can see both sides.

In recent years, Mattel has given in a little bit on this issue and widened Barbie’s waist a bit. This took place around the year 2000. Barbie now has a more proportioned waist.

Regardless of what , or who is right or wrong on this issue, the real winner in this debate is Mattel. The added controversy and publicity only helps to fuel sales. I wonder why no one talks about Ken’s figure?
